What Fun Things Do You Do?

If I could pick one of the most often asked question from students considering Drake, it would be something to the effect of what kinds of things go on while your not in classes. I'd like to give you a sense of some of the really neat and cool events that you have the opportunity to attend should you choose Drake. Here are just a few of the events I've gotten to attend in the last few days.

1. Character In Action. Every other Thursday a group of students and I from Drake volunteer at an after school program for middle school students at a local community center. The program is called Character in Action and it incorporates fun, tutoring and Character Counts! We have a blast spending time with the students, we've taken them to Drake Basketball games, done service projects, planned activities for younger students and in the spring we will be planting trees at their community center for Arbor Day.
2. Advertising Capstone Silent Auction. Each senior must take a class before they can graduate called a "capstone" in their major. This year the advertising majors have chosen to take their class to Omaha for a few days and needed to raise money. They chose a silent action to raise money for their trip. The silent auction was on Tuesday night. There was a wide array of items to bid on, something for everyone. I purchased several gift certificates and some Drake Apparel. I feel as thought I got a great deal and all the proceeds went to charity!!!! It was a great idea and the class raised a great deal towards their trip to Omaha.
3. Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Ethics Forum. Our SIFE chapter at Drake hosted an ethics event on Wednesday night. They brought in some of the foremost ethics specialists in our community for a great discussion on ethics. They had a networking reception before hand that was sponsored by Principal Insurance where we had the opportunity to meet the panelists. It was a great event and I had the opportunity to meet 2 new people who work for Drake in the development office that I hadn't met before.

These are just a few of the events that I attended last week and they represent a very small percentage of the number of actual events that took place on campus. Each week there are literally endless options. So get out there and get involved!!!
